THE CHANNEL PARTNER YOU’RE IGNORING MAY BE THE ONE THAT MATTERS

A large channel network looks impressive on paper. Hundreds of partners, thousands of relationships and a wide market presence can create a sense that the distribution engine is healthy. But reach and influence aren’t necessarily the same thing.

Not every channel partner sells every project. Some have stronger relationships in particular micro-markets. Some specialise in particular buyer profiles or price points. Some consistently move inventory, while others may have potential but need the right project or the right reason to prioritise it.

So the more useful question isn’t simply, how many channel partners do we have? It is, which partners can actually move this project?

That requires looking beyond the size of the network. Productivity, engagement, buyer profile, market influence and project fit all matter. So does the relationship itself. A channel partner who understands the product, trusts the sales team and has confidence in the proposition is far more valuable than a name sitting on a database.

This also makes channel management less about constantly adding partners and more about understanding the network you already have. Who is performing? Who has potential? Where is inventory moving? Where is it getting stuck? What is the market telling the channel?

The right channel network isn’t necessarily the biggest one. It is the one that creates the right conversations with the right buyers.

Because sometimes the next sale isn’t waiting for more partners. It’s waiting for a better relationship with the right one.
